Kickstarter: William Painter

About William Painter
Before they called themselves William Painter, they were known as Liquid Shades. They have three successful Kickstarter projects. Their first was the JackHawk 9000, which is now known as The Hook, their second project was The Lume, and their third and latest project was The Hughes.

If you want to read why did they name their brand after the American mechanical engineer, inventor and the founder of Crown Holdings, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, who most notably invented the crown cork bottle cap and bottle opener, click here.

Why I ❤ William Painter?

I was only recently made aware of their brand when I saw The Hughes on Kickstarter. However, that project has ended about five days ago (14/06/2015). Like most project, after pledging for a couple successful projects that eventually when MIA, I went to see if they had any projects before The Hughes and if they did link a Facebook account to their Kickstarter and to my surprised they're actually a veteran on Kickstarter with two successful projects (now three). Oh and Steven Dempsey, one of the founders, did link his Facebook account to William Painter's Kickstarter, which they go by as Commons Design Group at Kickstarter. So many names it is starting to get confusing, innit?

The Hook looks pretty much like the typical Ray Ban's Wayfarer but what makes it unique is that the arms of the sunglasses can be used as a bottle opener. This pair of sunglasses is ideal for when you go for a bonfire party by the beach or a pool house party or even when you attend music festivals like Zouk Out, Stereosonic, Coachella, and so forth. Why spoil your teeth to open a bottle of beer when you have a sunglasses that does the job for you? Trust me, your pals would want it too when they see you wearing it and opening beer bottles like a boss. Most importantly, Wayfarer is the kind of sunglasses that suits all types of face shapes. You just can't go wrong wearing a Wayfarer. Oh and if you don't need a pair of sunglasses, you can change The Hook or any pair of William Painter's sunglasses into a prescription glasses like Skrillex did with his Hook.

When I saw The Lume, I knew I had to have it but it was kind of a bummer because unlike their previous projects they did have a package deal, whilst for their Hughes project they didn't offer any package deals that came with their older models and I wanted the Lume. *pouts* I tried my luck in a way by messaging them on Kickstarter to inquire if they could come up with a package deal but they said they couldn't because of Kickstarter's strict policies, however if I really want it I could increase my pledge amount and at the end of the campaign I would just have to email them what the pledge amount was for. Yes! I was over the moon. And when my brother heard about it, he said to get the entire collection for him, meaning the Hook, Lume, and Hughes! Since that's the whole range, I thought I could try my luck for the second time and ask for a slight discount, I mean, there's no harm asking for a discount right? If I don't get it, then well, I don't get it but if I do get it then I'll be saving and God knows I need to save if I want my year end Australia trip to happen. Matt, one of the founders got back to me saying that he could make that happen but through Paypal. Yes! Have I told you I love them already? If I have not, please let me say this I love you William Painter/ Commons Design Group. I just had to do that. They or Matt are/ is just so nice and helpful with everything. I just can't contain this happiness of mine.

If you fancy yourself a pair of aviator, fret not, they have it and it comes in two different colours, gold and black. Oh and it's called The Hughes! I went gaga over the black one, so I'll be getting the black one whilst my brother will be getting the one in gold. And it was this pair that introduce me to William Painter, which I must now own all of it and at the same time going really broke because of it. Again, I want to thank Matt and the team at William Painter for giving me a great deal for buying the entire family plus an extra Lume.

Why get William Painter?

The picture above explains it all. I'm just kidding. Here's why William Painter's sunglasses stands out (copied from their website):

Aerospace Grade Titanium
Titanium is the strongest metal for its weight, which allows you to use your sunglasses actively without worrying about them breaking. Your sunglasses are made from the same materials used in a Fighter Jet, FI Race Car, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron and ultra-luxury watches. They're also hypoallergenic, which means it is perfectly safe for the human body. Doctors use titanium for hip and knee replacements due to this reason.

Japanese Nylon Polarized Lenses
Polarized lenses neutralize glare, make objects clearer and reduce strain on the eyes. They work especially well on car windshields, water (ocean or lakes) and in other brightly shining environments. Typically lenses have a polarizing and tint coating added to the top of them to achieve this effect. Over time, however, the glass can bubble and flake off the lens. Have you ever seen a bad tint job on a car? This is the same, exact problem. Our lifelong lenses guarantee goes one step further. We integrate both the polarizing and tint layers all the way through the glass, so it will last forever.

Black Armour Coating
For our coating, we examined titanium drill bits, knives, firearms and FI race car pistons to develop our own matte black protective glazing. We call our protective titanium covering "Black Armour." This stuff is strong - like drill bit strong.

Prescription Readiness
If due to whatever reason, you’re in need of prescription-ready sunglasses - we’ve got you covered. All of our titanium pieces give people the ability to pop in their own shades when it is necessary. William Painter sunglasses have been Rx tested and are ready. Unless you see something that says otherwise that we don’t know about, they’re ready to be installed by the optician of your preference.

Innovation from Across Industries
We’ve taken everything that we’ve learned from visiting exactly where our products are manufactured to oversee every aspect that goes on behind the scenes. Additionally, we’ve gone back and forth with other sunglasses companies’ opinions, so we could see their successes along with challenges that we felt we could take in and improve upon.

However, the most important step in all of this has been formulating a relationship with our customers in order to see what you wanted in your sunglasses. We want to give you a flawless masterpiece more than anything. From William Painter’s entrepreneurial mindset, this is part of why this is why we want to take great things and make them greater.

Hardcase Technology
We have worked tirelessly on making not only high quality pairs of glasses, but also ways to protect them. The William Painter hardcase is custom built for the Hook. It fits snuggly and doesn't shake around when moving the case. We've tried over 100 hardcases. This one is perfect.

Rear-weighted Balance
Our glasses have exceptional balance. We focus on shifting the center of gravity of the shades to the rear for added comfort and stability.

Is that still not convincing enough? I mean, I was pretty much sold when I read Prescription Readiness. Aerospace Grade Titanium was also one of major reason why I'll buy it. I used to own a plastic frame which was heavy and I would constantly complain to my mother on how uncomfortable the top of my ears feel. When my mother offered to buy me a new pair of frame, I was immediately sold when I tried on a pair of Gucci frame that is made out of titanium. I just can't describe how lightweight and comfortable the titanium frame feels.

Apart from that, their customer service team is extremely friendly and helpful. Now I'm counting the days till I get my parcel. I'll definitely write up a review on all pairs that I'll be getting, so be sure to check back.
