A Kickstarter Campaign: The Black Book of Cards by Uncommon Beat
This has to be the second most awesome looking playing cards on Kickstarter and I think everyone should pledge for it! Especially those who collect cards.
What's the first? Federal 52 by Jackson Robinson, where its inspiration comes from US notes. The design is just breath taking. Unfortunately, I didn't get to pledge for it. The worst part was he has two parts of it up on Kickstarter and I miss both of it! Bummer much?! Absolutely! Below I've attached the video footage of the drawing/ design process that Robinson shared on Vimeo.
In his first release, he had the original Federal 52 and the gold edition. In the second, he released the reserve note, silver edition and a limited edition black reserve note. Be sure to click on the link to check out his awesome design that you can no longer buy but you can still pray that he has a limited run of surplus and snap on it quick!
Back to my original post, the Black Book of Cards. Its inspiration comes from the notion that we are all assigned with our individual card based on the day we were born (for example, I'm born on November 28th, so my card is Hearts of 5) - it's similar to Zodiac sign - it suggests personal characteristics of those who hold the assigned card.
See below to find your assigned card:
Of course, it's not a matter of fact but just a concept. So it does not necessarily mean that the characteristics on the assigned cards are the exact characteristics of the person.
The design:
A close up of the design:
Are you smitten by the design yet? Cause I definitely am. Mainly for the concept behind it, and the typography design is just simple and neat. I've always had a soft spot for typography and this is bloody amazing - it's love at first sight.
How much do you have to pledge?
I'm so lucky that I was able to pledge for the Bicycle edition both vertical and horizontal design. It is limited to 500 runs each design, however they're just selling over 400 plus of them as they wish to keep a few for themselves.
But honestly, even if I didn't get to pledge for the Bicycle design, I would still pledge for the unbranded deck and Portofino case, which was my initially pledge until I receive an update that they were releasing the last few Bicycle design up, that was when I got the chance to change my pledge for the Bicycle designs, unbranded deck, and Portofino case. I'm still contemplating if I should get the art print because I'm a Hearts of 5, if say I was Spade of Ace, maybe I wouldn't hesitate that much? Not sure either.
So if you like what you see so far, head on over to their Kickstarter campaign page and pledge, either for the deck of card, art print, portofino case, or uncut sheet. As of today, you have 10 days to decide if you should get your hands on it. If you ask me, I'd definitely suggest you to get at least one deck of card so you wouldn't regret for missing out on one of the most beautiful deck of card.
In the mean time, you can head over to their website for wallpapers and avatars, or connect-the-dots art work for you or your children to do.
Here's a picture of the awesome Portofino case:
