iPhone 6 Plus: Case Review

If you know me, you would know I love Twelve South's BookBook range. It is a love at first sight feeling.

My first BookBook case was their first iPad case. It makes the already bulky iPad even bulkier but I didn't mind it because I mean it looks incredibly sleek, and no one would have guessed it was an iPad. I remember leaving my iPad on the cushion of the car many times (because I'm a forgetful person - I've lost many phones in my life) but nobody even bother breaking in to steal it because who would steal a book in Kuching? Yeap, nobody.

When one of the store in Kuching started bringing in Twelve South products, I was ecstatic because I can finally have matching case for my Macbook Pro 15-inch. Everyone loved it. Asked me where I purchased it and what not. Once when I was out drinking in Starbucks with my laptop doing my assignment, a person walked up to me and asked what casing I was using. The case was getting so many attentions and compliments from strangers. It was crazy!

Then when I received a Macbook Pro 15-inch Retina Display for my 21st birthday. The first thing I did was purchasing a new BookBook case for it. When Twelve South introduced the Rutledge edition early last year my heart shattered into pieces because I love it and I have no reason to buy a new case when my current case is still as good as new.

Recently, or just last month to be exact, I finally purchased a BookBook for my iPhone 6 Plus. I never thought of purchasing the BookBook for all my previous iPhone because I find it a hassle to use especially when I want to take pictures. For the iPhone 4 version, you have to push up your phone to take a picture. While with the iPhone 5 version, you hold the other side (the cards compartment/ cover) of the case when you're taking picture. And when you want to take a selfie with back camera, that would be a pain in the ass because the other side (the cards compartment/ cover) keeps falling back or just wouldn't stay still. So if you have small hands, it isn't practical.

They've come a long way to improve their iPhone case and when I saw the iPhone 6/ 6 Plus case, I knew then and there that I need it. With the iPhone 6/ 6 Plus version, you get to detach the soft shell case from the wallet case. So you can go without the wallet case, especially when you're using your phone with dashboard kit or desktop charging stand. The best part of it, it doesn't use magnet so you don't have to worry about getting your cards (like hotel room key, or apartment room key), which are magnet-sensitive from being wiped out. I lost count of the number of times I was left stranded from my own studio apartment in Melbourne because my key card was totally wiped out when it comes in contact with my Artisan Case that I got from Kickstarter. Another cons of using a magnetic wallet case is that there was this one time when my phone just drops out from the wallet case. So with this brand new BookBook for iPhone case from Twelve South that use a clip function, it protects your magnet-sensitive cards from demagnetize and also prevents your phone from ever falling out. Another aspect I love about this 6 plus case is that I don't have to fold my money to keep it inside the wallet case, even with RM100. However, I can't say the same with US$100 though because it is slightly longer than the wallet. With that said though, it almost nearly is the perfect phone case in the market but....I can't say I love it entirely because there is one major flaw with this product and that is the "soft"shell cover starts to wear off. I'd love if it didn't because it feels nice on hand. I wasn't rough with it or anything, and I just don't know why it is happening. The worst part is I've barely use it for a month, barely. So yeah, I've to admit that the peeling is a major put off for me. My soft shell cover now looks pretty ugly and feels icky on the hand too because of the peeling. I hope that Twelve South would look into this and improve it because it would have been one of the best iPhone Case in the market today.

Would I recommend it?
Definitely but that is if you don't mind the peeling on the soft shell case (as shown in the picture below). Because functionality wise, I can't think of anything bad to say. It doesn't demagnetize cards because it doesn't contain any magnets. The soft shell case wouldn't fall out from the wallet case because it uses a clip on system, so your phone definitely wouldn't fall out. With the 6 plus, I get to keep my Malaysian ringgit and Vietnamese dong (even 500,000₫) straight like how I would with my wallet but I'm afraid I can't say the same with US$100 and with the BookBook for iPhone 6 case though. The compartment for cards are pretty spacious, and it doesn't feel extremely tight or that you might tear the wallet if you put in more than 5 cards. At the same time, it isn't so spacious that your cards could probably fall out from the compartments, even if you just store one card.

Where did I buy mine from?
I was searching for this case high and low in Kuching. The shop that I used to purchase my Macbook Pro 15-inch case has closed down. And nobody at Switch Store (an Apple Authorized reseller in Malaysia) or all the other Apple authorized resellers stores or phone and accessories shops in Kuching know what a BookBook is and they've never heard of the brand Twelve South. Again, another reason why I hate living in Kuching - people can be so ignorant. The least I would expect from someone who works in an Apple store is to know a brand that mainly caters to Apple users, is that too much to ask? So eventually I purchased mine from Amazon and had it shipped to my friend's hotel while he was on vacation in the States. They do ship to Malaysia but I feel like the cost of shipping is a little too expensive. If you want to purchase one for yourself or as a gift, here's the link for iPhone 6 and here's the link for iPhone 6 Plus and the price for this case is US$59.99.

My ratings for this case: ★★
