Baking #1: Matcha Green Tea Mug Cake

Remark #1: I've never done this kind of post before but what the heck, why should I limit myself right?
Remark #2: I've never done any baking on my own prior to this.
Remark #3: I don't know if you would consider this baking but....yeah.

I got this recipe off "5-Minute Mug Cakes: Nearly 100 Yummy Microwave Cakes" by Jennifer Lee.

Ingredients
4 tablespoon (30g) All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon (1.8g) Premium Matcha Powder
1/4 teaspoon (1g) Baking Powder
1 tablespoon (12.5g) Granulated Sugar
3 tablespoon (45ml = 1.5oz) Fat-free Milk Low-fat Milk
1/2 tablespoon (7.5ml = 0.5oz) Vegetable Oil

Steps
#1 Combine flour, matcha, and baking powder in an oversized microwave safe mug. Whisk together until matcha powder is fully incorporated into the flour.

#2 Add remaining ingredients and mix with a small whisk until batter is smooth an no match powder clumps remain.

#3 Cook in microwave for about one minute. If cake is not done, heat an additional 15 seconds. Let cake cool a few minutes. Cake is best consumed while still warm or within a few hours of it being cooked.

Remark #4: For the measurements in bold, I got it through numerous website after googling what's the equivalent (you can click on the bold wordings as I've linked it to the respective websites that I got the measurements from) as the measuring scale I'm using doesn't have tablespoon/ teaspoon/ milliliter measurements. And just for the record, I can't find the measuring spoons so a measuring scale it is.

My First Attempt
Before attempting it, I fail to convert it first so I did everything from googling and measuring all at once, and I relied on Google's measurements, which doesn't always seem to be always right especially for baking ingredients. I mean, look at the measurement for Matcha Powder, if I was to rely on it I'll be putting 5g instead of 1.8g. And for my first attempt, instead of measuring the baking powder properly, I just roughly estimate it. So obviously it didn't turn out right. It didn't rise as much as it could. Hahaha.... The texture of the cake was very chewy and tough.

My Second Attempt
I'm not one to give up. After realizing what I did wrong in my first attempt, I was back at it. However this round, I doubled the ingredients because from the first attempt I learned that it wasn't a lot. Boy, I was wrong or maybe I wasn't? Probably I was just full from the first attempt, so..I did not finish it.

My verdict on this recipe? Are you ready for it?
With all honesty, I hate it. The cake was extremely dense and  heavy - definitely not the kind I'd eat at all. I'd not attempt this recipe again but if you're the kind that likes dense and heavy cake, this recipe is worth trying. The only thing I like about it is that it uses microwave, and it consumes very little time to make from prepping to baking to eating - I did it all under 15 minutes, including washing up.

Remark #5: Oh and if you think the sugar is too much, like I did for my first attempt, rest assured it is not. If anything, I felt like it was still a slightly bitter but that could have been my Matcha Powder.
